Traditionally, the Conference covers broad variety of problems important for the aquatic ecosystems and their researches. Main topics include:

  1. Ecophysiological adaptations. This section covers different aspects of living strategies (ecological and physiological) and adaptations to various physical-chemical conditions in diverse aquatic ecosystems. It includes all stages of development and distribution on molecular, cellular, organism, population levels. The section covers wide range of research directions, e.g. short-term alteration in genetic diversity of microbial communities, spread and seasonal changes of organism’s populations, invasive species, their adaptations to new environment and a role in the ecosystem.
  2. Interactions in ecosystems. This section focus on all kinds (symbiotic, parasitic etc.) at all levels (from gene to populations) interactions between different groups of organisms. Responses at ecological and biogeochemical levels, ecosystem processes (assimilation-dissimilation, production-decomposition, sedimentation, etc).
  3. Hydrological aspects of the Baltic Sea watershed. This section covers various aspects of the Baltic Sea hydrological regime, including effects of climate change on sea water level and possible influences on ecosystems functioning. Modeling of potential scenarios and predicting of all kind of processes in aquatic ecosystems on global and local scales.
  4. Water quality and human impact on water ecosystems. This section focus on processes bound with natural or anthropogenic influences on water quality and productivity of water bodies, anthropogenic impacts on functioning of aquatic ecosystems, comparison of methods for water monitoring.
  5. Methodological fitting for ecological researches. This section focus on applications of various methods in ecological researches, including molecular biology, physiological, mathematical, physical and technical etc. Some methods and techniques are created for very specific fields but their application can be expanded to other study areas. Thus special attention will be paid for new ideas to adapt classical and new methods for wider range of studies.
