Association with vessel vectors (?) | Ballast waters Biofouling Tank sediments References: Knight-Jones EW, Knight-Jones P (1980) Pacific spirorbids in the East Atlantic. J mar biol Ass UK 60: 461-464. Zibrowius H, Bianchi CN (1981) Spirorbis marioni et Pileolaria berkeleyana, Spirorbidae exotiques dans les ports de la Méditerranée nord-occidentale. Rapp Comm Int Expl Sci Mer Médit 27(2): 163-164. Comments: It hardly attaches on algae, thus cannot have pread on floating algae. The presence in the Atlantic (Canary islands, Knight-Jones & Knight-Jones, 1980) could be due to ship transport, in particular to steamships, for the fuelling of which the Canary Island have long been important. Its occurrence in many ports and marinas of the North-Western Mediterranean suggests ship-mediated introduction (Zibrowius & Bianchi, 1981) |
