Reproductive frequency (?) | Iteroparous |
Reproductive type (?) | Self-fertilization References: Youness, M., Peter, G. 2023. The first record of the North American freshwater limpet Ferrissia californica (Mollusca, Gastropoda) in Morocco. Nature Conservation Research. Заповедная наука, 8(1), pp. 108-112. Comments: F. californica is a obligate self-fertilizer. It lays eggs that are 0.6 mm and contain one juvenile. The eggs hatch in about seven days. They mature at between four and five weeks. Adults are about 2 mm. Once arriving in new environments, the success for establishment of this hermaphroditic gastropod might be the capacity for self-fertilisation in addition to its small body size and the ability to live in stagnant water. |
Developmental trait (?) | Direct development Comments: It lays eggs that are 0.6 mm. The eggs hatch in about seven days. They mature at between four and five weeks. |
Characteristic feeding method / Life stage (?) |
Comments: F. californica eats mostly diatoms. |
