Pathway / Vector (?) | Level of certainty: Highly likely Pathway: Natural spread from neighboring countries Vector: (Highly likely) Water currents References (not structured): Wrange et al. 2009, Biol Invasions Comments: The first findings of Pacific oysters occurred on shallow water around Burøy, near Kragerø, in southern Norway (region VII) in 2005 (Fig. 1). The three oysters found were 100–120 mm in shell length. The oysters were attached to mussels (Mytilus edulis) and two empty shells. In 2007, Pacific oysters of the same size were reported from Veierland in Vestfold, and during 2008 a high number of Pacific oysters were observed during a flat oyster sampling. Oysters were also reported from Tvedestrand, Arendal and Farsund (Fig. 1). In western Norway (region VIII), single Pacific oysters were reported from Kvitsøy, Halsnøy and Telava°g (Fig. 1) in 2007. From the survey at Espevik in 2006, a total of 94 Pacific oysters were collected in the channel. Another 16 were collected in June 2008. Oysters ranged from 48 to 123 mm shell height. Four size cohorts were observed (Table 1). |
