AquaNISInformation system on aquatic non-indigenous and cryptogenic species |
Species | Muceddina multispinosa
Date of the first record (?) | 1982 References (not structured): Holmes JMC (2000) Checklist of the cyclopoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Ireland. Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographic Society 24: 2-42. Comments: Records from July 1982. |
Recipient region (?) | Country: Ireland LME: 24. Celtic-Biscay Shelf LME sub-region: Celtic seas References (not structured): Holmes JMC (2000) Checklist of the cyclopoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Ireland. Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographic Society 24: 2-42. Comments: It was found in Lough Hyne on the south-west coast of Ireland with records from 1982 to 1991. |
|
Source region (?) | Unknown Comments: The species is known from caves in the Balearic and Canary Islands and from Sardinia. |
Pathway / Vector (?) | Unknown References (not structured): Holmes JMC (2000) Checklist of the cyclopoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Ireland. Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographic Society 24: 2-42. Comments: Holmes (2000) suggests that the species will have arrived with yachts mooring in the adjacent Barlogue Creek through which water entering and leaving Lough Hyne must pass. |
Habitat type (?) | Not entered
Wave exposure (?) | Not entered
Salinity range (?) | Unknown References (not structured): Holmes JMC (2000) Checklist of the cyclopoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Ireland. Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographic Society 24: 2-42. Comments: It is found in brackish to marine conditions in Lough Hyne. |
|
Temperature range (?) | Not entered |
Zonation / Substratum (?) | Not entered
Reproductive duration (?) | Not entered
Reproductive seasonality (?) | Not entered
Migration pattern (?) | Not entered |
Population status (?) | Unknown (Low level of certainty) References (not structured): Holmes JMC and Gotto RV (2000) A checklist of the Cyclopoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Ireland. Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society 24: 1-42. Comments: The species is probably established in Lough Hyne. The finding of it elsewhere in caves could reflect that the species has a nocturnal active period as the specimens in Lough Hyne were captured in light traps during the night-time close to benthic algal stands at depths from 2m to 20m. Not known from elsewhere in Ireland. |
|
Species status (?) | Cryptogenic References (not structured): Jaume D, Boxshall GA. (1996) Two new genera of cyclopinid copepods (Crustacea) from anchihaline caves on western Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic islands. Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 117: 283–304. Comments: The species was first described from caves in Sardinia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands by Juame and Boxshall (1996). |
