Population status (?) | Unknown (Low level of certainty) References (not structured): Cullinane JP and Whelan PM (1984) Marine algal records from the south coast of Ireland. Irish Naturalists' Journal 21(7): 302-304. Abbott IA (1971) On the species of Iridaea (Rhodophyta) from the Pacific coast of North America. Syesis 4: 51-72. Scagel RF (1972) Guide to common seaweeds of British Columbia. British Columbia Provincial Museum handbook, No 27. Comments: A single specimen, of 30cm in length, was found and no further specimens known. The specimen was examined by Abbott who confirmed the find belonged to the genus Iridaea and might be I. cordata (Turner) Bory de Saint Vincent, a species commonly occurring in Antarctica. The locality as to where it was found conforms with the habitats of North Pacific populations as described by Scagel. This is the only European record of the genus. |

Japanese Journal of Phycology 33: 225-232. Comments: The genus would appear to be widely distributed in the Pacific Ocean and many of the records of I. cordata are from the Antarctic region. |
